It seems a little surreal that our eldest will be starting school in 6 weeks time. I can’t help feel that it’s the first step towards unleashing our girl to the big bad world. But the tense wait is over…we know the school, the class and the teacher. We’ve even had the induction mornings and Munch absolutely loves her school and her little classmates (most of whom are existing nursery buds).
I’ve already taken her down to just 1 day a week at nursery, due to the cost and also to cram in as much time together before she starts school as possible. She has been full time at nursery since she was just over a year old and only recently dropped to 3 days at the start of the year. So I feel like I owe it to her to make some fantastic memories between now and August.
I’m feeling a little emotional at the thought of her starting school and nothing makes that realisation hit you quite like the trying on of the first school uniform. Not sure when the whole tie and blazer uniforms were done away with, but I’m a little sad that there’s no tie for her first ever day at school. Even without the tie, the crisp white blouse and pleated pinafore were enough to bring a tear to my eye.
Besides picking her uniform, the most exciting bit for Munch had to be choosing her first school bag (and all the essentials for the inside). We hit Smiggle, which recently opened in Aberdeen. I hadn’t heard of them before, but I genuinely haven’t seen a more colourful shop! Given that her favourite colour is pink, I’m surprised she opted for a purple bag.
She is such a kind, caring and thoughtful little lady, who is always eager to help us out. I’m hoping that school doesn’t change our girl too much.
