January is stereotypically a month for decluttering and organising every aspect of life. I’m a big believer in tidy house, tidy mind (which is perhaps why I’m feeling out of sorts, as we’re living on a building site at the moment and I’m finding the mess rather overwhelming).
I’m not one for New Year resolutions, but I need to get back to my organised roots once the house is pieced back together. We are all very busy, especially with a new baby in the house. So just where do I start?!
Make A List
I took a walk around the house and noted down all the areas I can improve upon. I started with the current storage areas, wardrobes, cupboards and toy storage and set about planning how I can make these areas work better for us as a family. Was there anyway I could simplify everyday tasks, such as laundry, putting toys away, even getting dressed? Some areas were already working great for us and I gave myself a little pat on the back for that!
Make a Plan
I’m currently working through what the quick fixes are and which projects will take a bit of planning. Clearly with the downstairs turned upside down at the moment, anything kitchen or toy related will have to wait (although I already have great plans for toy storage, which you can read here).
Hit The Shops
Clearly if there is anything I can re-purpose from around the house, I will. However I will need the right tools for the job. This is the fun bit, where I get to hunt down the perfect container for the task at hand.
Declutter
When implementing a new organising space, it’s a perfect opportunity to bin, donate or rehome those things I don’t need. I’m no hoarder, but it is very easy to accumulate useless things. I live by these de-cluttering tips.
Implement
This best bit about organising is implementing the new system…standing back and enjoying it in all its glory. The goal with every project is to streamline everyday life and spend more time doing the things I love.
There is a lot to tackle, but I plan to spread it across the year and aim to improve one area each month…Keeping it simple and stress free. We will be organised again…watch this space!!

I need all the help I can get with organising my home as I have so much stuff now I have three children and it is driving me mad. I love the idea of walking about and making notes on what needs improved , I think I need to steal that one especially for my teens bedroom as everything seems to live on the floor at the moment with her xx

Oh gosh….the teenage years! I couldn’t live without a notepad. It was just little things like moving where we hang shirts etc so that things flow better. I want to free up as much time as possible x
I feel so out of sorts when things just aren’t where they should be. Can’t wait to get back to normal. Good luck with yours x
This has inspired me to get organising my house! The toys need drastic attention!
Toys are the worst!
I’m all very good at the making a list part but often don’t get any further ha!! I’ve got a very long list at the moment so will have to get it going! xx

It’s hard to know where to start! Very daunting!
I cannot wait to see your new kitchen organised – and the lovely shiny newness of it when you finally unveil it! Exciting! x
Neither can I…taking ages!
I wish I could be more strict with myself… I’m great at making lists, but actually having the time to spend de-cluttering is my difficulty! We did have a great sort-out just before Christmas though, so we’re in a much better place than we were! We had only been in the house 2 years before we did this – I’m sure you’ll beat that by a mile! x
You’d think we just moved in the way it looks. Not long now!
I am so organised it’s unreal, but we’re renovating some rooms at the moment and I’m finding it hard to live with the clutter. I love your tips though. I am definitely a list maker and I have a love for decluttering, I wish it was my job haha. xx #love2blog
Renovations are the pits. Just think of the end result! x
I need to do this we finished building an extension on Xmas Eve and a new baby on New Year’s Day means things were done but not strictly finished. This week I’m going to do a room by room snagging list. My hubby will be so pleased !! X
Ha ha, Yes. ..I need you to do x, y and z!
I think organisation is key. A list is a great way to start as it sends you on the right path of what to do next x
Defo! Here’s to streamlined living!
Oh I do LOVE this post! I am such a big fan or being organised and neat and today…love a good sort out! Great tips and I am also working my way through some rooms at the moment 🙂 Jess xx

I hate when things aren’t neat…it warps my mind. I could probably rhyme off every snag item from the bathroom fit that’s still to be fixed. Hope your sort through goes well xx
So bad at keeping the house decluttered and desperately need to do this! I live the idea of going round the house and making notes. Maybe that’s where I should start… X

It’s daunting, but worth it! x
Once you’re done, can you come and do my house too? I feel like I never get out of the bit with stuff!
I think it’ll take me all year!
