With the lighter nights making an appearance it’s time that I would usually start to refresh things around the house. Although, what with the renovations…I think I need a smidge more than a spring clean to smarten up this house.
I was doing a bit of a room snag the other day and realised that there isn’t a single room in this house that I would class as ‘finished’. Whether it’s a window blind in the nursery, or just decorative bits and bobs in our bedroom. I’m not going to say I was overjoyed about this discovery. It felt like a huge set back in getting this place finished.
We’ve come a long way from how it was when we moved in 2 years ago. We have eradicated the red wood stained skirtings and door facings and replaced them with white. All internal doors have been replaced with oak veneer doors. The entire upstairs has been decorated and carpeted and a new kitchen, utility and bathroom has been installed to boot.
We have removed an internal wall to open up the kitchen and dining room and create a new family room. The flooring downstairs has been replaced throughout. The entire ground floor has also been decorated. I need to remind myself this is all a massive improvement!
What’s left to do? Well, the doors downstairs need to be varnished. The skirtings and door facings downstairs have to be filled and painted. The mantle pieces in both family room and living room need to be replaced with a railway sleeper. Accessories need to be honed for our bedroom, spare room, main bathroom, toilet, family room and living room. Lets not forget the living room has yet to be floored, woodwork replaced and decorated. Oh and window dressings for the nursery and entire ground floor…..and…well probably 1001 other little things that aren’t even on my radar…ahhhhh!
Renovations are tough…even more so with kids. As parents, we are never going to be as busy as we are right now and that’s leaving each of us very little time to get cracking with the finishing jobs.
Enough of my rambling update and mind dump. To tide you over, here’s a little photo diary of our kitchen/family room renovation (there was no way I could make these pictures pretty!)…
Good news is, we are in the family room…but until we find the perfect sofa and storm the internet for the exact finishing touches, it’s staying under wraps!

Wow, what a lovely big space! This is giving me a glimpse into my life for the next year or two – we have just started renovating an entire house, and will likely not have one “finished” room for a very long time!
Oh I feel for you! Blinkers on and nose to the grindstone. Just think of the finished result!
I cannot wait to see it finished. It looked awesome when we came up – I know, a bit of a mess, but I could see it’s huge potential. You are going to have such a beautiful home Pam x

It’s still a long way off. I think we have renovation overload x
Oh you are doing so well to have done all those renovations. We so desperately need to do work on our house but finding the time and the money to do it is just proving virtually impossible. I really look forward to seeing the finished article when you’ve done your house to a standard you are happy with, I find it really inspirational.x

On the inside 😉 I’ll just have to close my eyes when I go outside! xx
Ahh can’t wait to see the finished look, it’s going to look amazing! Definitely worth it. So jealous, I’d love to renovate my own house some day xx
I need to hire you to do the finishing off. I’m losing the will with it! x
