I love how full of light these rooms are, such a contrast to the way they were before. We decided to get rid of the doors between the two rooms and I’m so pleased we did. It might not be as cosy in the evenings but it makes the space feel so much bigger. My favourite spot in this space is sitting in the ‘cuddler’ sofa in the bay window. Curled up with a book and a coffee/glass of wine time of day depending, it’s definitely my happy place!

What do you wish you did differently? (If anything)

Well, I don’t wish we’d done anything differently, but I do wish we’d hurry up and finish the room off! There’s still edging round the flooring to finish, shelving to go up in the opposite alcove to the girls homework space, a curtain for the patio doors oh and the dining table and chairs and tv unit all need ‘Annie Sloaning’ in grey! I’m sure we’ll get to it all eventually!

What room is next on your list?

Next month we are having our upstairs bathroom completely ripped out and renovated and I honestly could not be  more excited! When we moved in 6 years ago the living room/dining room and bathroom were the rooms we were most desperate to change. They were so tired, mismatched and not to our taste at all. Unfortunately with both my husband and I setting up our own businesses it meant we had little money to spend on the house, so they’ve had to wait. Boo. Now the time has come for the bathroom, I’m literally counting down the days! We’re having a slate floor, subway tiles and dark grey grout – much more to our taste than terracotta floor tiles, brown wallpaper and brown and turquoise tiles!!

  1. Also, this room is just the kind of inspiration I’m looking for. We are making over our lounge in early May and I’m keeping three walls white, playing with splashes of yellow and I’m searching for the perfect grey too. I love how you’ve created a grown up look but it also looks cosy and has personality – I’m not one for keeping things bare or too stripped back, it has to look and feel like me!
