I do love the start of a new month…it heralds the latest Bloggers’ Homes, the monthly interiors link up, and a welcomed peek around another bloggers’ home.
I want to thank everyone who linked up last month…the winner of the £30 Rockett St George voucher is announced below and also a huge thank you to those who have been joining in over on instagram with the #bloggershomes community (so much inspiration!)
Back to proceedings however, as I pass over to Katy from Hot Pink Wellingtons as she gives us a guided tour of her rather stunning bedroom (look at that wallpaper!) and how she brought colour to a dark space.
Our bedroom has been the most difficult room in our house to decorate – it tends to feel very dark thanks to a teeny tiny window which looks out on our side return, so lets very little light in. The house’s previous owners chose to embrace the darkness by putting in huge mahogany fitted wardrobes, so those were the first thing to go! I felt that the only way to brighten the room was to go for all white walls, but I really wanted to embrace my love of colour and pattern in other ways.
What do you love about the room?
My absolute favourite thing about the room is the wallpaper, which I’d lusted after for years. I chose Daydream by Julia Rothman and Hygge & West – it had the perfect whimsical feel I love, and the pops of colour drew me to it.
I also love the deep blue of the velvet headboard on the bed. I had a very specific idea in mind for what I wanted with the bed, and this little beauty from Loaf achieved it perfectly. I love dressing a bed too – I bought matching cushions to go with it, and I love the different texture that the light blue herringbone throw gives.
What would you do differently, if anything?
I would have loved to splash out on some more luxurious wardrobes and bedside tables, but budget demanded that we go with Ikea for the moment! We do still need to replace the rather nasty rollerblind that we inherited with the room, but it’s one of those little touches that I fear may remain not touched for years…
And lastly, what’s next on your list?
Our next project is the big one! We moved in 3 years ago and have decorated all the rooms bar the kitchen and bathroom. But we really want to do a big extension which will involve replacing both of those, so we’re holding off doing anything with them until we have enough cash saved up – I’m thinking it’s a 5 year plan minimum. Lots of time for me to expand my Pinterest kitchen and bathroom boards and get inspiration!
