Happy February everyone! Here we are again with Bloggers’ Homes, the monthly blog & vlog interiors link up. Thank you so much to all of you who joined in last month… it was nice to see a few vlogs being linked up (we do like to move with the times!). Scroll down to find out who the lucky winner of January’s RSG £30 voucher is and also to link up any posts or vlogs you may have.
Now for the juicy bit… the bit we all love… having a little snoop around someones home. This month we welcome the rather lovely Sarah, from Ethel Explores (previously Glasgow Mummy). Sarah has recently moved house and has systematically been working her way round and putting her rather gorgeous stamp on each room. So, I’ll hand over to Sarah to give us a little tour of her ‘intergalacticaly’ funky sons bedroom.
What do you like most about the room?
With a recent move to our new home, I felt that it was an ideal opportunity to let my children have some input their bedroom decor. My son chose to have a blue feature wall (which we both love), and I picked a pale grey for the remaining walls. He also picked his own ceiling pendant, and within budget too! However it’s taken a few months to find homes for everything, and it’s only now after gutting his room over the Christmas holidays that I finally got around to hanging his artwork, and styling some of his shelves (it won’t last for long, that’s for sure!). Some of my favourite items in his room are his Lego Star Wars print which was a gift from his Auntie Ali; his Lego storage head, again another gift – this time from his friend James (can you tell we love Lego!) and finally his ‘what would spiderman do?’ print.
What would you do differently?
With time I think we will invest in new artwork, this is an easy way to change up a room without having to re-paint walls. We have two prints on the wall above the sofa which are actually samples of Star Wars wallpaper from B&Q that I put into cheap frames.
We also stuck with the same furniture that we’ve had for a number of years now, although we did personalise the Ikea chest of drawers by adding knobs that we sourced on eBay that tie in with the blue feature wall. When the budget allows, I would like to purchase better quality furniture, and I’m sure we will need to make the move from bunk beds to a double bed at some point as my son is definitely going to be tall like me! He’s going to be 8 this year, and is only getting bigger!
There are also still a few bits and pieces that need finished… painting the woodwork around the new windows is one and I need to get some more plugs installed.
What project is next on your list?
I am waiting (I was going to say patiently, but after a year I’m not so patient anymore!) for planning permission for a small extension to my kitchen/utility area, so this building work is next on my list. We will be knocking down some walls to open up the existing dining room and kitchen area, as well as extending it ever so slightly. I have survived the last 6 months with a half ripped out kitchen (I got carried away, and didn’t anticipate it taking this long!) and so I cannot wait to have a proper kitchen again with cupboard doors and a fully functioning oven/hob etc!
