It’s the first of the month and that means it #BloggersHomes time again! Thank you so much to everyone who links up their blogs/vlogs, tweeted, tagged on instagram last month.  I love to see all the new changes you make to your homes, your inspriation and tips.  Scroll to the bottom to find out who has won May’s link up and to also link up for this month.  Also, I want to sneak in a small bit of award news! I’m thrilled to have been shortlisted in the Britmums BiBs Awards in the Arts & Design category (for interiors blogs) and there is a little badge in the sidebar should you want to vote for us (closes on the 2nd July 11.59pm)

Anyway… back to it and the feature tour this month.  This extension has been something I have been following on social media, more so that my favourite soap.  Donna at What the Redhead Said has done an amazing job at completing this space.  It’s both traditional and trendy and perfectly timeless (and I have bi fold envy!)

What do you love most about the room?

Ah I love everything. Our extension had been a dream for so long, and we planned so many tiny details that now I just love it all. But, a huge part of the room for me is the exposed brick wall. It’s not really brick – but brick effect tiles, and I think it brings the whole room together really well.

I also love how much storage space we have in the kitchen – with pull out storage solutions, plinth drawers under the units and even a drawer under the sink that fits around the pipes. Every inch of space has been used as well as possible and no space is wasted. It will be perfect for our family as it grows and has real longevity – I know that this kitchen will still work for us in ten years time.

It’s such a lovely sociable space. As a family we spend so much time around the kitchen island – cooking, doing homework, eating breakfast. It’s a real hub of the home and somewhere that I now love to spend time. It’s also so lovely to finally have a work space – and a downstairs toilet!

What would you do differently, if anything?

Honestly, I don’t think we would change a thing. There’s still some little things that we need to do – I’d like some little rustic shelves, there’s some painting that needs finishing and I want to get a sideboard with a wine rack in it. We hadn’t thought about where to put alcohol – so that’s probably the only thing. Next time I would definitely plan alcohol storage a bit better! In all seriousness though, we’re so happy with the space and wouldn’t change a thing.

And what room is next in your list?

There are two big jobs next. One is the garden – as the extension has destroyed our lawn and we’d really just like to make the garden more of a usable space now that the extension has taken over some of it. This will involve getting rid of our HUGE 30ft shed and having a more traditional shed at the end of the garden, giving us a much bigger expanse of lawn, a play area and better veg patches.

But, we also want to give our bedroom an overhaul – knock out a chimney breast, get fitted wardrobes, new carpet and make it into more of a finished, grown up space. I think this job will actually get bumped up the list and we’ll do the garden next year.
