Each month we do a feature of a Blogger room.. Whether it’s a recent make over or just a gorgeous space and this month we have a rather stunning rustic country room from Neve (We The Parents).  I’m sure you’ll agree it is a glorious space and has given me a few ideas about using greenery as finishing touches to our own kitchen…

What do you love most about the room?

The clean open space and airy brightness. It is a wonderful space that clears my mind and allows me to breathe easier as soon as I set foot in it.

The kitchen is vast – easily two stories high, but lovely copper pendant lights create the illusion of a much lower ceiling. The result is that it feels intimate rather than overwhelming.

A fun twist is that the voluminous space has wonderful acoustics. This encourages our kids (and just about everyone else) to sing as soon as they set foot inside.

I love the light too. It is double aspect with north and south facing windows, so it’s very bright throughout the whole day.

Decor-wise, we knew that less was always going to be more and so we opted to keep things simple. To bring some life, we went wild with plants, creating a botanist feel. The children love this and they each have their own which they are responsible for watering.Bloggers homes kitchen feature

On the floor, there is some good quality wood-effect laminate. This looks great and compliments the exposed oak beams. It is also super easy to clean which is important as the kitchen is the family arts and crafts area and so the floor is often strewn with paints and clay.Bloggers homes kitchen feature

We picked up our dining table on eBay, then sanded it down and painted the legs. It’s 8ft long and can fit lots of family and friends around. We like how it is old with lots of marks and blemishes. This gives it real character and means the kids can get creative and messy without us having to nag them.

What would you do differently, if anything?

Well, storage space is a bit of an issue. I’ve been a bit sneaky and missed out one part of the kitchen. This is the area where the utilities and tools live. This could do with some industrial chic shelves made out of scaffolding planks. (A project for another day.)

And what room is next on your list?

The kids’ bedroom. At the moment it is where our four-year-old daughter sleeps but soon we’ll put her younger brother in too. We’d like to decorate it in an artistic way, creating two distinct areas each with its own identity whilst at the same time complimenting the other.
